For the month of September, I’ve focused on my ninth of ten leadership tips – to “Inspire Others Your Way.” My last couple of posts have pointed out how I tend to lead quietly. Since my tip is to lead others “your way,” I wanted to find an example of a contrasting style.
So, I turned to someone who is regularly in the news and who does not lead quietly: Donald J. Trump! Following Trump’s nomination for President at the Republican National Convention in July, I purchased and read his 2009 book Think Like a Champion. Neither this post nor his book take on his current political positions or messages. Instead, we’ll focus on Trump’s advice to leaders.
Donald J. Trump is the very definition of the American success story, continually setting the standards of excellence while expanding his interests in real estate, sports and entertainment. In Think Like a Champion, Trump explains his approach to life and business. In his words, “I take a topic, think about it, dissect it, and put it back into a formula that becomes what I believe is solid advice.”
