Are You Tough & Competent?

Labeling someone as competent or incompetent may seem judgmental and narrow, yet all leaders must possess a level of competence that enables them to get the job done. At NASA, Gene Kranz—best known for his role in directing the successful Mission Control team efforts to save the crew of Apollo 13 (check out the movie if you haven’t seen it!)—remains a prominent and colorful figure in the history of U.S. human space exploration and the embodiment of “NASA tough-and-competent.”
