God the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven & Earth

From Genesis 1:1, we learn that God created from nothing.  By the incomparable power of His will, God spoke everything into existence.  He’s Almighty.

As Matt Chandler noted in The Apostles’ Creed: Together We Believe, we all have to wrestle with the question of whether we believe God is good.

When we pray to God the Father for our “daily bread” as Jesus instructs in Matthew 6:9-11, we must recognize that our daily bread is not that God gives us everything we want.  It’s that He gives us what we actually need.

Our belief in God is more than a theological point of agreement about correct doctrine.  A right understanding of God is foundational to the way we live the Christian life with practical implications for our relationships with God and one another.  If God the Father Almighty is infinitely powerful yet intensely personal, that should shape how we live and how we counsel others.

Consider this Prayer today:

Father, by Your mighty word, You’ve brought everything into existence.  I can rightly call You my Maker and Creator.  Everything belongs to You, my Father.  Continually give me eyes to see Your beauty and ears to hear Your marvelous truth.  Thank You that not only are You my Creator, but You’re also my Father.  Draw me ever closer into fellowship with You, through the work of Your Son and by Your Holy Spirit. Amen.

85 years ago Dale Carnegie wrote what has become a best-seller and life-changing book for many on How to Win Friends and Influence People.  While Jennifer is not quite that old today, I could think of no better example than her life, showing how to win friends and influence people.

Over the years, I’ve watched her develop a wide range of relationships, lead wherever she is—at work, at church, and in the community—and influence people for the better…  Our kids and I are the primary beneficiaries of her gifts and the way she lives.

Happy Birthday, Jennifer!
