I Believe in The Holy Spirit

The Apostles’ Creed may seem to take a sudden turn in its train of thought here, but it backtracks a bit to fill in the gap between Jesus’ ascension in the past and His return in the future.  While Christ is seated at the right hand of God, the Holy Spirit is active and present in each of His people.

The trinitarian structure of the Apostles’ Creed is now completed.  Having dealt with faith in God the Father and God the Son, the creed turns to the Holy Spirit.

In the two languages of the Bible—Hebrew and Greek—the words for wind, breath, and spirit are the same.  Two ideas help us gain insight into a biblical understanding of the Spirit of God.  First, the Spirit brings life.  Just as God brought Adam to life by breathing into him, so God is able to bring individuals and his church to life through his Spirit today.  Second, the Spirit brings power.  The Spirit of God is like the wind—an unseen force that acts upon things and people.  The Spirit is God in action!

The Power of Vision: Discover and Apply God’s Plan for Your Life

Did you know that August is National Eye Exam Month?  I remember my first eye exam.  It came my Freshman year in college.  During the first few weeks of school, I sat in the back of 400 and 500-student classrooms; and I could not see what was being presented.  I’m ashamed to say that wasn’t a big deal.  Then, I missed a few fly balls on the softball field.  That got my attention!  I went to the eye doctor, whose first question was, “Is your vision blurry?”  I responded, “No.” Then, we started clicking through different corrective lenses.  “Oh,” I had to admit, “I guess it was!”

Shortly after that, Present George H.W. Bush was up for re-election in 1992.  In the campaign, he had derisively dismissed “the vision thing,” virtually assuring his defeat by voters who perceived him to be visionless. And so “Vision” entered the lexicon of the average person.

Many in business renewed their focus on Vision.  In case after case, the outcome of vision-development efforts resulted in human-created visions rather than people seeking God’s vision.  It’s sad to say, but while most believers know about the concept of vision, few have God’s vision in place in their life and ministry.
