George Barna’s Master Leaders: Revealing Conversations with 30 Leadership Greats

Imagine the chance to sit down with 30 of the world’s best-known and most-respected leaders as they share their secrets to success. That’s what George Barna provided in his book Master Leaders, published 12 years ago and called the most valuable leadership book of the decade.  Barna masterfully took dozens of in-depth interviews and arranged them as “Green Room” conversations as part of a Leadership Conference—making them interesting and fun to digest.

Through interviews and conversations with “the greats” (including Ken Blanchard, Colleen Barrett, Ben Carson, Tony Dungy, Newt Gingrich, Seth Godin, Patrick Lencioni, and many others), Master Leaders offers 16 key distinctives that you need to know to be a successful leader.

Growing Kingdom Wisdom

Tom Yeakley wrote Growing Kingdom Wisdom: The Essential Qualities of a Mature Christian Leader.  He explained that leaders in any context need wisdom, and Kingdom leaders desperately need it to lead well according to God’s Kingdom values and purposes.

Leaders in any context are reliant on wisdom, and the best leaders are conscious of that reliance and seek wisdom in every situation. True wisdom is from God Himself. It is given to those who ask and pursue it from Him.

As Mark Sanborn put it in the Foreword of the book, if you want to lead better and be better, use the FIT tools:

  • Frequency: To be wiser, increase the frequency with which you pursue, study, and reflect on wisdom.
  • Intensity: Don’t dally.
  • Technique: Use the best techniques.
