Jennifer
Jennifer continues with her job as a Physical Education (P.E.) Aide at Weber Elementary—where she loves her students and fellow coaches!
Last month, God took her Dad (Wayne Smith) home, after a brief battle with the coronavirus. It seemed so sudden, given how mentally and physically strong he was when we visited them in August—following their 60th Anniversary earlier in 2020! Her Mom (Connie) is staying in Lamesa, where she receives a lot of support from First Baptist Church and the community.
At the end of 2020, Jennifer closed out nearly a decade of leading our Church’s Middle School Sunday night activities—branded {crave}: Fellowship, Bible study, Games and Mission Activities that is such an amazing experience, you’ll crave more!
For 2021, she chose the word “Available,” recognizing that Cody’s senior year will present unique challenges to celebrate in a time of pandemic, and her mother will continue to need support throughout the year. Tanner’s last year of middle school and beginning of high school marks another significant transition ahead in 2021 as well!
Katy
This year, Katy celebrated her sixth anniversary, dating Evan Albright—an Engineering student at the University of Texas-Dallas. Katy is in her third year at Dallas Baptist University (DBU), majoring in Elementary Education. She expects to earn a combination Bachelor’s & Master’s degree in a couple of years. She also works a part-time job in the College of Education and is active in her church and service sorority.
Katy’s One Word for the coming year is “Still”, as she works to strike a balance with the various activities of school, work, church, and volunteering that comprise a flurry of life!
Evan thought about the need for discernment in the year ahead and picked “Wisdom” as his One Word for 2021.
Cody
Cody is a Senior at Clear Brook High School and is having fun on his basketball team, which is currently ranked in Texas’ Top-10. Cody was recently accepted to the University of Houston’s Architecture Program, so we’re making plans for the start of his college career in the fall.
He’s chosen “Self-Control” as his One Word for 2021, recognizing that college will bring new freedoms and that Fruit of the Spirit will become even more important in the year to come…
Tanner
Tanner grew about 6 inches this summer and started his 8th grade year as a “Big Man on Campus.” He’s having fun with school basketball and playing baseball for a weekend tournament team.
As he closes out his Middle School years and prepares for a transition to high school, he has chosen to repeat his One Word from 2018: “Focus”…still working on that…
As we start this new year, let’s consider it a new beginning. What’s your One Word to bring more intention to the new year, as you shoot for the stars?
