The 4 Habits of Joy-Filled Marriages

Happy Half-Anniversary, Jennifer!  We were married on January 25, 1997, and we continue to make our marriage a priority…notwithstanding parenting challenges, school challenges, work challenges, and even pandemic challenges!

Last November, I picked up and read Marcus Warner’s The 4 Habits of Joy-Filled Marriages: How 15 Minutes a Day Will Help You Stay in Love.  I was reminded of several truths from his book and encourage those of you who are married to follow his advice.

Happy Birthday, Jennifer

Coach Jen (Relish on the Right) pictured with fellow Weber Elementary PE Coaches Sudie, Lauren, and Susie

When I met Jennifer, she was Assistant Volleyball Coach at Texas A&M University.  She was planning to gain that experience then move to a First Assistant position at a top-tier volleyball program.  Those plans were derailed when we met.

In 1997, we married, she moved to Houston and landed the Head Coaching job at Galveston College! She led the school to a 45-6 record, finishing ranked #12 in the nation. Her years working with Coaches Laurie & John Corbelli at Texas A&M really paid off. The following season, her team went 37-18, finishing second in conference.

In 2000, Jennifer decided to leave her coaching job and stay at home when Katy was born.  She continued to coach volleyball camps in the summers and a variety of children activities.  She’s always been and always will be a coach.

Last year, she returned to a different kind of coaching as a part-time P.E. Aide at Landolt Elementary.  This year, she reassigned as a P.E. Aide to Weber Elementary and is having fun with the coaches there, as you can see from the picture above.

In honor of “Coach Pyle,” I’m summarizing Keith Webb’s The COACH Model for Christian Leaders
