Henry Blackaby noted how as a boy he came to a profound realization, “God is God and I am not.” Later, he came to believe not only that God is real, but he wants to take an active role in our lives.
What do most of us do? We set the “practical” budget, which represents what we can afford. Then we might set a second hope or faith budget. The budget we really trust and use, however, is the one we can accomplish by ourselves. We do not really trust God to make a practical difference in what we do.
Throughout the Bible, God is speaking to people, but it’s always for His purposes—to invite people into His work. It’s crazy to stay where you are after God has said to go. God walks with people and reveals His will. At one point, his publisher suggested titling his book “Knowing God.” However, Blackaby resisted, and eventually the material was published as an interactive study entitled Experiencing God: Knowing and Doing the Will of God.
When we take our eyes off ourselves and put them on to God, we experience abundant life.
