In December of last year, Jennifer and I traveled to Kansas City to see Texas A&M play in the NCAA Volleyball Final Four.
While there, we toured the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library & Museum in Independence, Kansas. It was fun learning about former President Truman, so I picked up Rudolph Flores’ 2023 book Harry S. Truman Biography: The Ordinary Man Who Became an Extraordinary President. Flores describes the unassuming origins of a leader.
The Truman narrative epitomizes the quintessential American dream. His journey, marked by humility, resilience, and an unwavering sense of duty, is a testament to the fact that greatness can emerge from the most unassuming origins.
In the heart of Missouri, nestled amidst the rolling hills, the Trumans lived in a world where life was not measured by extravagance or opulence but by the sincerity of character and the earnestness of purpose.
On this Memorial Day 2026, it seems appropriate to honor a soldier, who became President.
